The last 2 1/2 days have been spent reading the Hunger Games trilogy. Here is my opinion....if anyone cares...
Overall, I liked the books. I'd had several people tell me that they liked HG better than Twilight (whaaaat??), so I was interested. I still like Twilight better.
.
HG is a quick, easy read with an interesting idea behind it. Kind of makes you wonder what the author is like if she's thinking these things up! It sorta reminds me of the books they make you read in high school like Fahrenheit 451 and Animal Farm....politically based books. Books that warn us of the dangers of communism.
.
I enjoyed reading the books - they held my attention very well (ie. nothing much else got done around here), but I felt like there was something missing. Like the pot was simmering but never really got to a full roaring boil. I just kept waiting for that "something" to happen which would push the story to the next level - it never came. And no, I don't really know what I would add/change, I just know that for me it never quite reached my (high) expectations. Maybe more of the love story - not anything inappropriate, obviously, but just more depth between Katniss and Gale or Katniss and Peeta.
.
The final verdict:
I recommend reading the Hunger Games to those who haven't, but it's not a series I would read over and over again.

Here are my thoughts on the HG: I, too, liked them overall. But, I did not like MockingJay. The first two books were so hopeful. "One person can make a difference" kind of thing. Then, it's like she gave up. It was so depressing. And, it's like she ended up with Peeta instead of choosing him. She should have killed Gale when he was being taken by the Capital (and asked her to do so). Then, she should have rescued Peeta. The government should have been overthrown completely and a better one instituted with Katniss actively involved. Anyway, just my two cents. ;0)
K - so glad you were honest because every single person I know has read these and they're all shocked that I haven't yet... it's like Twilight all over again and I cannot imagine feeling what I felt for Twilight for another series. (I'm being serious so please stop laughing at me!) I'll read them- in fact I think they're next on my list after I finish Kabul Beauty School- great read btw.
Ahh! Spoilers! I started reading the other cmments, and should've known better.
I loved them and am reading them again. I cannot even imagine Katniss killing Gale and having to live with it the rest of her life. No way! Aagh
