Bath-tied

Last night I had the cutest conversation with Janae. We were going through our bedtime routine, and she chose a book to read - one that my mom made her called "My Pictures of Jesus". Mom made it for her 2 Easters ago; it is filled with pictures of Jesus and pictures of Janae with words from different primary songs throughout. It is a great take-to-church book. Anyway, I was getting Kiera's jammies on while Janae was looking through this book. She looked up at me and said, very seriously, "Mama, I don't want to be bath-tied." I started racking my brain - bath-tied, bath-tied, what is she talking about??? Well, I realized she was telling me she didn't want to be BAPTIZED. The rest of the conversation went something like this:

Janae: I don't want to be bath-tied, mama

Me: Why not?

J: Because I just want to stay home with you and Kiera.

(Now I'm wondering what she thinks baptism is. Don't think I'm terrible, please, but I don't think I'd ever even talked to her about baptism before this.)

Me: What does baptism mean? (I keep pronouncing it slowly so she'll say it right)

J: Well, you put on your pretty church dress and get in the bath. Then the daddy comes and helps you get out. But you have to raise your hand like the daddy and then go like this (she plugs her nose and dunks her head down.) but I need to plug my nose so I don't get it wet. I just don't want to be bath-tied.

Me: Honey, that's okay. You have to be 8 years old before you can be baptized, so you don't need to worry about it.

J: I'm free (3) years old.

Me: I know. You don't need to worry about being baptized yet. When I was 8 Papa baptized me, and he baptized Rea and Kim and Kevin too!

J: Yeah! Papa bath-tied you and Rea and Kim and Kevin! (She runs down the hall to Kevin's room and I'm thinking that she's going to ask Kevin about it.)

J to Kevin: Kevin, when I'm 10 I will lose my tooth and hide it under my pillow just like Evan!

WHAT?????

That's HILARIOUS! Just goes to show that it's ok to keep things simple and not worry too much about what's going on their heads--cuz it won't be there long anyway. That's a great story. You'll love re-reading it in a few years.

I love those conversations! Monster Truck(2) thinks you get bafftized in a baff-tub. And then you get to meet Jesus. Funny kids.
