No-cost decorating

Last weekend, the girls and I went to our cousin' s birthday party, and we came home to this. For those of you who have not been to our house, this used to be our dining room (note the chandelier hanging above the ottoman). We have lived here for over a year now, and never used it as a dining room, so we decided to move things around and turn the space into a sitting/living room. I just didn't know Jeff was going to do it so soon, or while I was gone!We had all of this furniture in our family room, so he put it in the dining room (now the living room), put the dining room table (minus the leaf) in the eat-in-kitchen area, and we sold the small kitchen table on craigslist. The only thing we bought was the area rug to finish the room out and make it more homey....Jeff is the one who actually picked the rug out - he is turning into quite the decorator!
Our new room has quickly become our favorite spot in the house. Even though we already owned all of this stuff, it seems new again just because its in a new space. The room feels so warm, inviting, pulled-together and FINISHED. Jeff and I both love to sit in there and read or just hang out. And the best part is it only cost us the price of the area rug (which wasn't very much, thanks to Target!).

The only down side to all of this is that now my family room is almost completely empty. We just have our sectional in there now for seating. There are no end tables, no lamps, etc. (just toys!) So we are now in the market for new family room furniture - which is fine with me - its always fun to go shopping!!

Your new living room looks GREAT!! I love the new rug - and you have nice furniture. I really like the dark brown colors from the couch/chair/ottoman and the lamps. You even have a great plant. :) It turned out really well - your furniture looks like it belongs there.

So in the family room - is that ANTM on the TV?!?! :)
